The SdKfz 250/7 served as a standard mortar carrier (Gert 897), equipped with an 8cm (3.15in) GrW34 mortar fixed internally, and was allocated to the 4th platoon of each Leichter Panzer Aufklrungs Kompanie (Light Armoured Reconnaissance Company) with 42 rounds stored on the vehicle. Typically, it was accompanied by a Munitionsfahrzeug (ammunition transporter) that carried an additional 66 rounds and two MG 34 with 2,010 rounds for close support. These were usually assigned to platoon commanders with extra radio equipment.
