The word describes this big MRC/Academy 1/48 scale plastic model Kit.The MH-5eE “Sea Dragon” is an exact miniature of the big mine hunter and combat transport helicopter on active duty with the US Navy. The “53” is the western world’s largest and most powerful helicopter. Capable of carrying up to 55 troops, or a 16 ton payload in its transport mode, it has room for a jeep and trailer or up to 24 litters if used in a medivac role. The MH-53E Sea Dragon’s primary mission is Airborne Mine Countermeasures (AMCM) using the Mk 105 minesweeping sled, the Mk 103 mechanical minesweeping system and the ASQ-14 side scan sonar system. The MH-53E can also be fitted with the ramp-mounted, GAU-21 .50-cal. machine gun weapon system. MRC designed and engineered this model, and pooled our military liaisons and model engineering resources, leaving nothing out of this unbelievably detailed kit. Academy's Passion for Precision made it happen. With a fuselage length over 18” and its seven rotor blade diameter of almost 20”, the “Sea Dragon” takes a very impressive stance on a desk, shelf or in a diorama. Many new parts were tooled to create this exceptional kit. Mine hunting equipment is all there. Fuel sponsons have been enlarged and the tail section can be displayed in flight or in a folded position. The big rotor blades can be modeled open or folded as well. The highly detailed hub and rotor assembly can only be described as “exact and perfect”. Its extensive cockpit and cabin details are incredibly real, and if the loading ramp and doors are left open you can almost “taste” the combat operations. Exterior, minute fuselage and engine details and panel lines are all there. MRC/Academy has given the seasoned modeler three authentic build choices, thanks to the comprehensive paint instructions and precision of the decal sheet produced by Cartograf of Italy. Magnificent is the only word that can match the accuracy and quality of MRC/Academy’s MH-53E “Sea Dragon”.
