The Panzer III (SdKfz 141), a medium tank developed by Germany in the 1930s, saw extensive use in WW2. Initially designed to combat other armored vehicles and support the similar Panzer IV, it later shifted roles due to the emergence of the Russian T-34. The Panzer IV, with its larger turret ring, was upgraded to mount the long-barrelled 7.5cm KwK 40 gun. From 1942, the final Panzer III variant carried the 7.5 cm KwK 37 L/24, better suited for infantry support. Production ended in 1943, but its robust chassis was used for the Sturmgeschtz III assault gun until the war's end. A total of 5,774 were produced between 1939 and 1943.
