Predicament by All in the Wild

In the heart of Aberdeen, Saskatchewan, a dramatic scene unfolded between a predator and its prey. This was no ordinary day, as one creature's life hung in the balance. A snowy owl, my favorite subject to photograph, was perched atop a power pole, repeatedly flying down to the ground and back up, its behavior puzzling. Through my binoculars, I couldn't quite make out what was happening, so I ventured into the field for a closer look. The field had been swathed but not combined, and the grain was still there, covered in snow. Every time I stepped over a row, a mouse would dart out, revealing the field was teeming with them. The owl, surprisingly trusting, was hunting these mice, flying down to flush them out and then hovering just above the ground. I managed to capture this intense moment using my 600mm lens, a rare opportunity that presented itself within just 15 minutes.
