Formed in Oxford, England by five students, the band On a Friday signed with EMI's Parlophone label and changed their name to Radiohead. Their debut album, "Pablo Honey," was released in February 1993.
The album was produced by Paul Q. Kolderie and Sean Slade, known for their work with Dinosaur Jr. and Pixies. The fusion of US alternative rock sensibilities, the experimental spirit of post-punk bands like Magazine and Joy Division, and the lyricism and British humor of The Smiths is what characterized early Radiohead. From this album, one can feel a "punk" touch that is not found in their other works. This is the starting point of their brilliant career, featuring the mega-hit "Creep" and a total of 12 tracks, which still enjoys immense popularity.
