Among British WWI fighters, the Sopwith 1 Strutter held a distinguished position as the first Allied aircraft to feature a synchronized machine gun. Shortly after its introduction, it earned its unique name, 1 Strutter, due to the distinctive W-shape of its cabane struts, which resembled half-struts. Post-World War One, 1 Strutters continued service in Britain, France, and Soviet Russia, but by the mid-1920s, they were deemed obsolete and phased out.
